We Are Like the Lotus: Stories of Hope and Resilience from Cambodian Mainers

A night of storytelling and performances to benefit the Cambodian Community Association and educate the community about Cambodian history and our contributions to Maine.

Join us as we hear the stories of Cambodian Mainers. Stories of survival and trauma. Stories of grit and determination. Stories of hope and resilience.

Over forty years ago, the Khmer Rouge stained red the fields, rivers and forests of Cambodia with the blood of their fellow countrymen and women. Nearly two million Cambodians lost their lives in one of the darkest periods of Cambodian and world history.

Refugees fleeing the violence and the turmoil have chosen places like Maine to call home and generations of Cambodian Mainers now live, work and give back in communities all over the state of Maine.

We are not invisible and our stories must be heard.

Proceeds from this event will help support the CCAM’s New Year Celebration and programming.
